βグルカンには強靭な疎水性があり、粉末状や煎じたものでも酸(胃酸など) で殆ど溶解しない為、これまで実時的な投与方法が確立できずに長年世に出ることはなかった。
現在市販されている“霊芝サプリメント類”は、βグルカンを合有している“粉末”や他の液体と混ぜただけの“混合物”であり、βグルカンそのものが溶解している“水溶液”ではないので、その多くは飲んでもその成分は吸収されずらいとされている。
